Frequently Asked Questions:
What is your teaching style/philosophy?
I believe music education should foster both versatility and creativity. While the harp is deeply rooted in the classical tradition, it can—and should—evolve alongside the music and culture of our world today. I take a holistic approach to teaching, centering listening, curiosity, and exploration while helping each student develop their own musical voice.
Depending on your goals, we’ll tailor a learning plan that’s right for you!
Where do I get a harp? Do I have to buy one right away? Can I rent?
Buying a harp is a significant investment, so you don’t need to purchase one right away. Local music shops and harpists offer rentals for a reasonable monthly fee, and I’m happy to help you find the right instrument.
I’m an adult. Is it too late to start?
Not at all! I’ve taught students ranging from five to ninety-five, and I believe it’s never too late to begin. Regardless of your previous musical experience, there is always something to be gained from developing a musical relationship with an instrument.
My child is interested in learning harp. How young is too young?
Every child learns differently, so readiness depends more on their ability to concentrate and follow directions than on age alone. I’ve taught students as young as four and five.
Where do you teach?
My private studio is in East Vancouver, British Columbia. I currently don’t travel to students’ homes, but I also offer virtual lessons.
